About Guaranteed Rate Field Seating Chart 2017

Formerly known as Comiskey Park, Guaranteed Rate Field is a baseball stadium owned by Illinois Sports Facilities Authority. Located in Chicago, Illinois, it was considered then as one of the first few sports facility in Chicago since Chicago Stadium was built in 1929.  Major League Baseball’s Chicago White Sox spent over 80 years at the old Comiskey Park before this new ballpark was opened. It was officially completed at a cost of $167 million. In 2003, the name Comiskey Park was changed to U.S. Cellular Field, after U.S. Cellular bought the rights to the name for $68 million; however, many fans and sportscasters still refer to it as Comiskey Park. This ballpark includes a 53 ft x 28 ft video screen, two-tiered fan deck right on top of the concession stand. It has also been used in numerous movies and commercials like Major League II and My Best Friend’s Wedding.

Guaranteed Rate Field is located at 333 W. 35th St., Chicago, IL. You can see the old marble plaque Comiskey Park (1910-1991) home plate fixed on the sidewalk right next to U.S. Cellular Field. If you’re taking the “L” rail going there, you can take the Red Line going to Sox – 35th station.

When this ballpark was first built, most fans criticized the upper deck’s height. The upper deck was pushed back over the lower deck, and the stands fairly rose. It was designed in such a way to minimize overhang issue plaguing most stadiums established since the ‘70s. However, the design actually created one of the highest upper decks in baseball. The new stadium’s upper deck first row seats are as far from the field as the upper deck’s highest row of seats from the old stadium. Fans watching from the angle and pitch upper deck tend to feel dizzy as this is one of the few ballparks in Major League Baseball that don’t allow fans from the upper deck to wander anywhere in the park.

The new park’s design was scoffed at on other fronts. The new roof was much smaller than the roof on the old park, and didn’t entirely cover the upper deck. Since the field was virtually on a street level, the original upper deck made ballpark seem like a cookie-cutter stadium from outside. Many fans thought the ballpark looked ultra modern even with the existence of classical arched windows.

As an answer to these complaints from fans, the Guaranteed Rate Field and overall design has encountered several renovations since 2001 so that the facility can fit in well with the latest architectural trends. These new features have added a multiple level concourse beyond the center field, customizing the fences to make the outfield less well-proportioned and to remove 6,600 seats from the top of the upper deck.

The Renovated Stadium
The new stadium has 103 luxury suites on two levels, and 1,822 club seats on 300-level mezzanine between the upper and lower deck. The club seats houses in-seat wait-staff, television viewing spots and bar-style concession from an enclosed concourse. The new suites were one of the reasons why Comiskey Park was demolished since luxury suites add more income.
