About Kauffman Stadium Seating Chart 2017

Kauffman Stadium, originally known as Royals Stadium is a ballpark renamed on July 2, 1993 in honor of Royal’s owner, Ewing M. Kauffman. It is home to Major League Baseball’s Kansas Royals which is located in Kansas City, Missouri. It forms part of Truman Sports Complex together with Arrowhead Stadium, home of Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League. The stadium will host the 2012 All-Star Game.

Kauffman Renovation
Voters in Jackson County, Missouri voted for a 0.37% increase in sales tax on April 4, 2006 to fund renovation plans for the Truman Sports Complex. The construction started with an official groundbreaking of Kauffman Stadium on October 3, 2007. Renovation was completed in 2009 at a cost of $250 million. It features more concessions, restrooms, brand-new seating areas, spacious concourses, Royal’s Hall of Fame building and 84”x 10” Crown Vision HD scoreboard. The team signed an agreement to a lease for them to stay in Kansas City until 2030, which is an extension of their present lease to expire on 2017. A few of the changes done were the fountain view terraces, installation of “Crown Vision” high-definition scoreboard, sports-themed restaurant on the right field, improved vertical circulation, upgraded bathroom amenities and concessions on all concourses.

Features
Although Kauffman Stadium is intended to be a baseball-only sports facility, its design took numerous cues from the multi-purpose ballparks common in the recent years. The main stadium is made essentially from smooth, bare concrete facade. The entire seats were replaced with blue seats and the lower deck seats now have cupholders. The upper deck is quite elevated although it’s not as high as the other stadium established during its time.

Kauffman’s most popular feature is Water Spectacular, a waterfall and fountain display located behind the right side fence. Measuring at 322 ft., it’s considered as the biggest privately-funded fountain in the whole world. Fountains are displayed before, in between innings, and after each game while the waterfalls are continually flow in the background.

The ballpark also installed a new high-definition Daktronics scoreboard. It replaced the previous matrix board with Royals logo shape and the video board installed in 1989. The new 84 ft. wide by 105 ft. tall scoreboard was first used on the 2008 Opening Day. The video scoreboard costs $8.3 million, and the control room behind its operation is staffed by 17 people during game days. On top of the score board are strobe lights that flash whenever the Royals make a home run.

Another interesting feature in this stadium is the solitary red seat placed among a sea of blue-seats located behind the home plate in memory Buck O’Neil who previously occupied this seat. In every game, a lucky person (who best represent the Buck O’Neil spirit) from among community nominees gets to be chosen to sit on that seat. The red seat was originally located in Section 101, Row C, Seat 1 but after the renovations and changes in section numbering were done in 2009, the seat number is now located at Section 127, Row C, Seat 9.
