About Nationals Park Seating Chart 2017

Nationals Park is the home field ballpark of the Major League Baseball’s Washington Nationals. This 41,487-seating ballpark was designed by Devrouax & Purnell Architects and Planners, and Populous (known originally as HOK Sport). The stadium’s current name was also the same name of the ballpark used by the Washington Senators/Nationals in the 1990s until it was renamed to Griffith Stadium. The Lerner family had planned to sell the naming rights; however there were no strong bids for this deal so the team decided to stick with National Park name. This entire stadium is owned by Washington Convention and Sports Authority. It is located in the Navy Yard community of Washington, DC along the Anacostia River.

It served as the venue for the 2008 season’s first game on March 30, 2008 between the Nationals and the Atlanta Braves. On April 2008, Pope Benedict XVI celebrated a Mass here in Nationals Park for an estimated 47,000 crowd of people.

Nationals Park Construction
Funds for its constructions was supposed to be provided by Deutsche Bank but the deal was postponed due to some complicated negotiations with the city government, MLB and the bank. This issue was resolved eventually and construction started in May 2006. The project was implemented on fast-track schedule via a design-build methodology which would run for 23 months only. Mayor Anthony Williams chose the site of Nationals Park as the most viable among 4 other options for a ballpark location. Ronnie Strompf, the project head of this construction was mainly responsible in coordinating the work from architects and subcontractors on a daily basis. Official groundbreaking and unveiling was held early 2006.

Renovations and Changes
• Three statues in honor of Walter Johnson (Washington Senators), Josh Gibson (Negro League Homestead Grays) and Frank Howard (expanded Senators) were installed.
• The Red Porch restaurant was further expanded located in the center field, to add more tables on both concourses and field side. Glass windows by the concourse side were changed to sliding garage doors that opens to an outdoor fenced patio.
• Beginning 2009 season, Centerplate was replaced by Levy Restaurant as the official concessionaire and food and beverage provider at the National Parks.
